Horgen, Switzerland – Synthetic rubber supplier Trinseo is planning to build a new SSBR (solution-styrene butadiene rubber) pilot plant in Schkopau, Germany to further develop its synthetic rubber business.
Trinseo to build new SSBR pilot plant
The pilot plant is being built to improve Trinseo’s production efficiency and help “speed up innovation” in the performance tires market, said a company statement 13 Oct.
The plant is scheduled to start operation in the fourth quarter 2017.
Trinseo expects the plant to make the development process from lab sample to commercialisation faster.
The capacity of the plant has not been announced but Trinseo expects that it “will deliver sufficient quantities of new SSBR formulations required for real-life tire testing.”
According to the company, the construction of the pilot plant showed its “long-standing commitment” to its performance materials businesses.
“This strategic investment will allow us to be more agile and flexible than ever before in our ability to turn around SSBR product testing,” said Samer Al Jabi, global business director for synthetic rubber.
“The pilot plant will be a valuable technology capability, enabling us to bring S-SBR materials to our customers more efficiently and help performance tire makers meet new market trends,” he added.
