Munich, Germany – Speciality chemicals company Wacker AG is looking into building a new silica production facility in the US, according to the company.
Company CEO Rudolf Staudigl flagged up the plan at the opening of the company’s $2.5-billion polysilicon production site in Charleston, Tennessee.
Based at the same location, the new facility would be dedicated to the production of Wacker's HDK pyrogenic silica – an amorphous silicon dioxide powder is used as a filler in silicone elastomers, among other applications.
“Charleston gives us the capacity… for a fully integrated production site in the world’s second-largest chemical market,” Staudigl said at the opening ceremony on 18 April.
