Tokyo - Mitsui Chemicals Inc, has announced organisational restructuring effective 1 April in a bid to improve its business and production strategy.
In an announcement on 25 Feb, the Japanese firm said that the restructuring was in line with its 2014 mid-term business plan, which aims to “accelerate business strategy, new business & product creation strategy, and business support strategy”.
According to Mitsui, the move would speed up decision-making by improving operational efficiency and reducing inter-departmental co-ordination.
The structural changes will include, among others, the transfer of the ‘fine & performance chemicals division’ – currently part of Mitsui’s Functional Chemicals business sector – to its Basic Chemicals segment.
Also, a ‘research & development center’ will be established to organise all R&D-related activities across the company. This, said Mitsui, will “unify all R&D functions, strengthen cross-laboratory co-operation and accelerate creation and commercialisation of new business and products.”
