Pawtucket, Rhode Island – Teknor Apex Co. has developed a range of TPEs, which are designed to provide enhanced functionality, aesthetic and tactile properties and durability in constant-use personal devices such as headphones, fitness trackers, and smart watches.
To be introduced at NPE2015, the consumer electronics series of compounds is part of the company’s Monprene range of TPEs. Products in this series are said to exhibit resistance to skin oil, stains, household chemicals, and UV and are free of latex, phthalates, BPA, and heavy metals.
Custom formulation allows a wide choice of surface properties—from plastic-like to rubbery, from silky smooth to “grippy,” and from glossy to matte, according to Teknor Apex.
“Monprene compounds for consumer electronics derive from commercially proven TPEs in markets … such as medical, wire and cable, personal care, and safety products,” said Brian Mulvany, senior manager of consumer, industrial, and electrical markets for the company’s TPE division.
“Building on this experience, we have developed property portfolios optimised for electronics applications that involve prolonged use in intimate human contact,” Mulvany added in a 15 Dec press release.
