ERJ staff report (BC)
Rawalpindi, Pakistan – The department of the environment for the Rawalpindi district has sealed 20 tire repair shops and junk yards during a campaign against mosquito-borne dengue fever, Pakistan Today reported.
Raids are being conducted during the campaign, in which the department has checked as many as 185 tire shops and junk yards throughout the district. 20 tire shops have been sealed upon finding mosquito larvae, due to a lack of precautionary measures against dengue.
Preventive steps include wrapping all tires properly, so that rainwater cannot collect in them, forming a “perfect” breading place for dengue mosquitoes.
