ERJ explains winter tires on BBC local radio
ERJ staff report (BC)
Croydon, UK - BBC Coventry & Warwickshire presenter Annie Othen interviewed European Rubber Journal Editor Barry Copping on air on 9 January.
Othen's morning show included a feature on issues around car tires raised by listeners.
Challenged as to whether tire makers offer summer and winter variants merely as a marketing ploy, Copping explained the low-temperature benefits of winter tires in terms of better grip and handling in icy, snowy or wet conditions and shorter braking distances.
Othen asked how drivers could best distinguish summer from winter tires and get advice on seasonal switching. Copping advised consulting the motorist's usual servicing outlet, one of the major tire fitting chains, or the vehicle manufacturer.
