New silicone potting compounds from Anixter
ERJ staff report (BC)
Wimborne, UK - Anixter Component Solutions has introduced silicone gel and liquid silicone rubber potting compounds claimed to be suitable for installations with voltages up to 3kV and dielectric field strengths greater than 20kV/mm.
Anixter cites the compounds as offering protection to IP68 standard, and as being COSHH, RoHS, WEEE and REACH compliant and completely non-toxic. They cure in less than 10 minutes and have a working temperature range of -60 to +180°C (rubber 200°C).
The company notes that silicone gel is now approved for use within Atex-rated enclosures.
According to Anixter the compounds are suitable for permanent submersion and particularly useful for balancing pressures, thereby reducing the risk of leaks.
