BBC examines the safety of part-worns
ERJ staff report (BC)
Birmingham, England - The perils of motorists entrusting their safety to part-worn tires will be addressed in a BBC television programme, at least for part of the country.
At 19:30 tonight (3 December), BBC Inside Out West Midlands will present a motoring-themed show, with one of three articles posing the question " How safe are part-worn tires?"
The programme will show that despite the existence of legal minimum standards for part-worn tyres, what the reporters found on sale invariably failed to meet these.
Ten garages across Staffordshire and Shropshire were visited by BBC Inside Out West Midlands. Seven of these sold part-worn tires; in each of the seven test purchases carried out, all used tyres sold to researchers failed to meet these basic requirements.
