China moves to self-sufficiency in elastomers

Beijing - Further to an ERJ report on 23 February (see below), China has released more details of its plan to increase local supply of elastomers. During te 12th 5-year plan, the country intends to develop local technologies and increase capacity for butyl rubber, nitrile rubber, ethylene-propylene rubber, isoprene rubber, SIS elastomers and fluoro-elastomers
The country repeated its aim to produce within China 70 percent of domestic demand for these materials by 2015.
China also intends to develop technologies for the production of acrylic rubber, HNBR, and oter advanced elastomers, such as low-temperature fluoro-elastomers.
