Russian tyre industry committee meets
ERJ staff report (DS)
Moscow - Russian tyre makers discussed the negative effects of opening the Russian tyre market to exports when Russia joins the World Trade Organisation.
At a 16 April meeting of the Subcommittee on the development of tyre industry RCCI, delegates from JSC "Kordiant", JSC "Nizhnekamskshina", JSC "Altai Tyre Plant", OJSC "Petroshina", "Belshina", as well as LLC "Michelin Russian Tyre manufacturing company", LLC "Pirelli Tire Russo", and representatives of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organisation TESTSHINPROM and «Institute for the tyre industry", discussed customs rates and tariffs.
The keynote, "On the preparation of the list of measures designed to compensate for the effects of Russia's accession to the WTO for the tyre industry in the Customs Union" was presented by the Chairman of the Subcommittee on the development of the tyre industry, General Director of JSC "Kordiant" Dmitry Sokov. The report noted that the negative consequence of the entry of Russia into the WTO will increase the flow into the Russian market of tyres produced abroad (primarily in China and Eastern Europe) and, accordingly, the loss of local, including localised, producing a significant market share. During the discussion, the meeting worked out concrete proposals on measures to compensate for the negative effects of accession of Russia to the WTO.
