Yokohama sole supplier for Macau Grand Prix
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Tokyo - The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd will supply ADVAN racing tyres to all of the competitors in the 58th Macau Grand Prix, the Japanese company said in a 16 Nov news release.
The event, a Formula 3, will take place in Macau, China, from 17-20 Nov. This will be Yokohama's 29th consecutive year as the exclusive tyre supplier to the Macau Grand Prix. Yokohama will also be the exclusive tyre supplier in the culminating event of 2011 FIA World Touring Car Championship, which will take place in Macau in conjunction with the Macau Grand Prix.
Macau's Grand Prix takes place on public roadways and thus requires tyres of different specifications from those used on racetracks. Formula 3 has been a stepping stone to Formula 1 for several prominent drivers, including Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher, and the late Ayrton Senna.
The World Touring Car Championship, meanwhile, is the summit of touring car racing. Yokohama has been the sole supplier of tyres for the World Touring Car Championship since 2006. The company is contracted to supply ADVAN racing tyres, which incorporate advances in reducing environmental impact, for the race through 2012.
