Gates' new CVT belts improve bond between rubber, aramid
ERJ staff report (DS)
Denver, Colorado -- Gates Corporation is introducing its next generation of Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) belts for ATVs, UTVs and snowmobiles. The belts use a combination of rubber and aramid to deliver long life in this arduous application.
TYraditionally, aramid fibres do not adhere well to rubber compounds. To overcome this, Gates said, "G-Force belts are engineered with an aramid reinforced fiber rubber and advanced aramid tensile cords. The cords are surrounded by a specially formulated adhesion gum to reduce edge cord pullout, a known problem in CVT belt systems. The end result is an OE equivalent or better belt design that delivers comparable performance and durability at a reduced cost."
