ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo - Tokuyama Corp. is to withdraw from its Tokusil and
Finesil (precipitated silica) business as of 29 February, 2012.
The parent company stopped making the products in March 2010, but its subsidiaries continued to make the products and the parent sold them under its own banner. From 1 March the products will be available directly from Tokuyama subsidiary, Tokuyama Siam
Silica Co., Ltd. And Tokuyama affiliate, Oriental Silicas
According to a press release from the company, soaring raw material and fuel prices and intensified competition caused by the entry of
new competitors have reduced opportunities for making a profit in these product lines.
Tokusil is used in tyre reinforcement and reinforcement of silicone rubber, as well as anti-caking agents; toothpaste and other applications. Finesil is not used in the rubber industry.
