    ERJ staff report (LMH)

Pacific Grove, California -- RTA (Retread Tire Association) has released a statement aiming to dispel the myths about the quality of Chinese truck tyres, and their suitability for retreading.

The association, which says its aim is to provide factual information to truckers and others with an interest in retreading, said that although many Chinese truck tyres are “good” and can be retreaded, it does not apply to all produce coming from the country.

“It is no secret that a lot of junk has been produced by some truck tyre manufacturers in China in the past, but the smart Chinese truck tire manufacturers soon realised that they could never gain a foothold in other countries unless their quality greatly improved,” said Harvey Brodsky, managing director of RTA in the 11 May statement.

He added that tyre companies Double Coin and Sailun were two good examples of truck tyre manufacturers who know that unless they continually improve their quality, they will be quickly shut out of very profitable markets worldwide.

RTA also noted in its statement that practically every major name in truck tyre manufacturing currently produces or is getting ready to produce truck tyres in China, which further showed that top quality tyres can and will be produced in China.

Brodsky advised consumers to do their homework and be certain to have tough questions answered, such as “How good is your warranty, can you guarantee the retreadability of your tires, can you give me the names of satisfied customers and other references?”
