US tyre shipments to fall 7% in ’09 before 2010 recovery

Washington, DC – The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) projects US tyre shipments will decline more than 7 percent this year before rebounding slightly in 2010.

The drop, to about 261 million units from 283 million, will be the second consecutive decline. Shipments last year fell nearly 9 percent from 2007, including a 5-percent, 10.2 million tyre decline in replacement passenger tires to 193.8 million units.
