Lanxess cuts butyl output as demand drops

Leverkusen Germany — Lanxess has announced plans to reduce output of butyl rubber from its existing plants in Canada and Belgium. The announcement follows by less than a month Lanxess’ decision to delay by nine months construction of a large butyl rubber plant in Singapore.

Lanxess said it intends to put 360 workers on short-time working and operate the two existing plants at reduced capacity. Lanxess said one of the plants may even shut down for several weeks. “These measures underline our commitment…
