Amtel-Vredestein suffers from Chinese copycats
Moscow, Russia - Amtel-Vredestein NV has said counterfeit Amtel-brand tyres have been found in some retail stores. Amtel-Vredestein warns that the use of these fake tyres may be dangerous.
In a statement, Amtel said, "Unscrupulous Chinese manufacturers frequently make cheap knock-offs of well-known tyre brands, choosing models that are popular among consumers. Amtel-Vredestein has also faced this problem this year when cheap imitations of its popular light-truck Amtel tyre models were found in retail stores. In particular, fake models include the Amtel 185/75 R16 - Cargo AS K-156 and Kobra K-156. The fake tyres combined the names of both models, and appeared in the market as the Kobra Cargo ??-156.
“Fake tyres are made of cheap rubber mix and low quality synthetic rubber,†said head of research and quality control department at Amtel-Vredestein, Anatoly Volnov. “Threads of such tyres are very weak and not elastic enough, they also wear out rapidly. These fakes may lead to car accidents.â€
