Toyoda Gosei to open plant in Mexico
Troy, Michigan -- Automotive parts manufacturer Toyoda Gosei North America Corp. plans to open a facility in Mexico later this year to supply original equipment customers serving the US and Mexico.
The plant, which will assemble and perform other secondary operations for automotive body sealing components, is scheduled to begin production in October. Most of the parts will be extrusions -- door weatherstrips and glass run channels -- manufactured at US plants, a Toyoda Gosei spokesman said.
The subsidiary of Japan's Toyoda Gosei Co. Ltd. is investing about $12.5 million for property, plant and equipment at the site, located in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The operation will be known as Toyoda Gosei Automotive Sealing Mexico S.A. de C.V.
Toyoda Gosei wants to establish a site to accommodate expected North American growth, including future sales expansion in Mexico, the company said. The new facility will allow the Troy-based firm to better meet its OEM customers' needs while maintaining the high quality it's known for, said Yuzo Saito, Toyoda Gosei North America president.
The plant will span about 118,000 square feet and will employ about 500 by 2010. Company officials aren't sure yet how many employees the site will have when it opens in October, the spokesman said.
