Goodyear dropping Kelly-Springfield name from plants
Tyler, Texas --The Kelly-Springfield name is disappearing from the last two plants to carry it, in favour of the Goodyear name.
The Tyler plant recently took on Goodyear's name, and the factory in Fayetteville, North Carolina, will follow suit in the next few weeks, a Goodyear spokeswoman said. The change reflects the strength of the Goodyear brand in the market as well as the cohesiveness of the company, she said.
Goodyear's Freeport, Illinois, plant also is under the Kelly name, but that is not included in the move because it is part of the in-progress sale of Goodyear's North American farm tyre business to Titan International Inc.
Akron-based Goodyear bought Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. in the mid-1930s and integrated the wholly owned subsidiary in 1999.
