Malaysian natural rubber production declines in March
Production falls 9.2% month-on-month and nearly 1% year-on-year, according to department of statistics
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's natural rubber (NR) production fell 9.2% month-on-month in March to just under 27,000 tonnes, down from 29,691 tonnes reported in February.
Year-on-year, the country’s NR output fell nearly 1%, compared to 27,188 tonnes in March last year, latest data by the Malaysian department of statistics shows.
“Total stocks” of NR in March fell 3.3% to 222,455 tonnes as compared to 229,940 tonnes in February, the Malaysian authority announced 13 May.
NR exports were up 7% month-on-moth at 58,965 tonnes in March, with China remaining the ‘main destination’ for exports accounting for 49% of the overall NR exports during the month.
Germany (9.3%), the United Arab Emirates (9.2%), India (6.9%) and Pakistan (4.5%) followed China in the top five export destinations.
For the quarter, NR production decreased by 7.5% to 86,944 tonnes as compared to 93,956 tonnes in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Year-over-year, the output fell 3.7% compared to the 83,848 tonnes reported in the first quarter of 2023.
