DuPont Dow claims processing aid advance
By Patrick Raleigh ERJ On-line news editor
Wilmington, Delaware-DuPont Dow Elastomers has gained a patent for a new fluoroelastomer processing aid for polyolefin extrusion compounds and has launched new additives based on the technology.
US Patent No. 6642310 B2 covers extrudable compositions containing large-particle-2-10 microns-fluoropolymer processing aids. The compounds, claims DDE, exhibit better melt processability, have fewer melt defects and condition faster.
The new products are unlike conventional processing aids, which use much smaller particle sizes and must be well dispersed in the polymer for the best processability, according to DDE.
