Goodyear Dunlop axing another 84 tyre jobs at UK plant
From Patrick Raleigh, ERJ On-line news editor
Birmingham, UK-Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK Ltd is to end production of radial farm machinery tyres at its Wolverhampton plant with the loss of 84 jobs. The closure, to take place within the next three months, will leave just over 500 employees at the site, according to a company spokesman.
The UK midlands plant, which four years ago employed over 2500 producing all types of tyres, will now manufacture only cross-ply farm tyres. The plant is also continuing its truck tyre retreading and raw material mixing and calendering operations.
The Wolverhampton site supplies compound and raw materials to Goodyear Dunlop's other UK tyre manufacturing facilities in Birmingham and Washington, Tyne & Wear.
At the end of last year, Goodyear Dunlop ended car and radial light truck tyre production at Wolverhampton, with the loss of around 420 jobs.
