London-Moncktons Coke and Chemical Co. Ltd of Royston, near Barnsley, UK is seeking Environment Agency (EA) clearance for a scrap tyre burning process, according to an EA announcement.
Moncktons has recently completed trials of a system for making coke by carbonising a coal blend containing up to 7 percent tyre crumb and has now applied for long-term permission for the process, the EA said 5 March.
The Agency is now considering the application and “will take into account all the relevant information from consultees and the local public.†The review, it said, will include assessing the impact of the rubber crumb on emissions from the plant.
