Goodyear gains military aircraft tyre grant
By Patrick Raleigh ERJ On-line news editor
Akron, Ohio-Goodyear has received a $2.25-million grant to fund research and development on "next generation" aircraft tyres for new fighter jets to be used by the US Navy and US Air Force. The grant was awarded under the defense appropriations bill, passed last week by the US Congress, according to Goodyear.
The R&D project will be based at the company's Akron Technical Center, said Goodyear, which claims to be the world's largest supplier of tyres for commercial, military and general aviation aircraft. The company makes aircraft tyres in Danville, Virginia; Bangkok, Thailand; and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
