Sevalco fined over sustained leaks of cyanide and deliberate concealment
Bristol--Sevalco, the UK carbon black manufacturing arm of Columbian Chemicals, has been fined £240 000 (€350 000) following sustained leaks of cyanide into an important wildlife area. The company also has to pay £70 000 in costs.
"This was a serious and long term problem involving a toxic substance at the Sevalco plant which the company failed to deal with and deliberately concealed," explained Tim Loveday for the Environment Agency.
