Japan Butyl to expand halobutyl capacity 32% to 70,000 tons/year
Tokyo--Japan Butyl Co. Ltd. plans to boost annual halobutyl rubber capacity at its Kashima, Japan, plant nearly a third to 70 000 tonnes by mid-2006.
Japan Butyl, a joint venture between ExxonMobil Chemical Co. and Japan Synthetic Rubber Co. Ltd., did not disclose the budgeted investment for the project. The factory's capacity was boosted to 53,000 tonnes from 35,000 tonnes in 2002.
ExxonMobil said the expansion is being undertaken to meet growing demand in Asia, and is part of its global supply strategy. The firm said it has expanded its halobutyl capacity 50 percent since 1997.
