Cordenka to expand Rayon capacity
Obernburg, Germany--Cordenka GmbH is to further expand its rayon tyre cord capacity at its Obernburg headquarters. The company will add around 1500 tonnes per year capacity through modernisation and the addition of new machinery. The new capacity is in addition to a 1500 tonne expansion brought on stream in 2004, and brings capacity at the plant to about 32 000 tonnes per year.
Cordenka said the new capacity represents an investment of some Euro 5 million and will be on stream by the end of 2005. The company expects to add more capacity in future. According to a statement, "The capacity increase is part of a gradual expansion program to raise the initial annual capacity of 29,000 tons in 2004 to 40,000 tons in subsequent years, following market growth in the years to come."
The ongoing strong demand for Cordenka's rayon tyre yarns results from developments in the field of ultra high-performance tyres and also reflects growing market interest in run flat tyres.
