Firestone EPDM roofing plant receives health and safety award
Kingstree, South Carolina -- Firestone Building Products Co.'s Kingstree manufacturing plant -- which specialises in EPDM roofing products -- has been awarded the South Carolina Palmetto Star for outstanding performance in the area of worker health and safety.
The award is given to companies having comprehensive safety and health programs with injury incidence and lost-time workday injury rates at or below half the industry's national average. Employees in Kingstree will be recognised for designing and implementing safety and health processes exceeding the strict standards of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Program.
Adrienne Youmans, the state of South Carolina´s director of labour, will present the plant with its Palmetto Star award during a Sept. 26 recognition event and flag-raising ceremony. Among the attendees will be Mark Emkes, chairman and ceo of Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc.; Bob Walker, Bridgestone Americas safety and health director; and several local and state officials.
