Jyco claims TPV corner mouldings are low-friction
Dexter, Michigan -Â Jyco claims to have overcome one of the biggest difficulties with its TPV corner moulding technology: high friction. The company says its latest TPV corner mouldings offer a coefficient of friction (CoF) around half that of the earlier products. The company said this eliminates the need for flocking and coating, thus delivering a price-competitive system.
The development comes on the back of the company's JyBond system, introduced in 2005. This, said the company, was the first able to bond TPV foam extrusions for automotive glass run channel and body seals with joint strength that exceeded cohesive failure.
Shawn Jyawook, Jyco's chief operating officer said, "Through enhancements in the formula and process, the next generation JyBond cuts the injection moulded corners' CoF in half. The slide force [in the corner] is now nearly identical to that of the extrusions. This opens the door for new design possibilities, including larger corner mouldings."
Jyco added, "The new generation of JyBond also exceeds OEM aesthetic requirements for colour match and gloss level between the moulded and extruded components, without EPDM's long-term blooming and bleaching issues."
