Dow to close latex plant in Sarnia, propylene oxide to go next year
Sarnia, Canada -Â Dow Chemical will permanently close its acrylate latex plant in Sarnia this autumn, said the company./p>
The company opened a new plant for these materials in St. Charles, Louisiana in January 2006.
In August 2006 the company announced the closure of all manufacturing operations in Sarnia, highlighting polyethylene and polystyrene, but barely mentioning acrylic latices or propylene oxide and the announcement has not been widely publicised.
In that announcement, Dow said the latex plant would close in 2008, but appears to have brought the date forward.
No-one from Dow was available to answer questions concerning the closure plan.
Acrylic latices are used in the building and construction industries primarily in sealing applications
