Avon puts UK mixing business up for sale
Melksham, UK -Â Avon Rubber has said it is actively seeking a buyer for its rubber mixing business based at Westbury in the West of England. The company said if a buyer could not be found, the unit will close. Up to 60 workers could be affected.
In a statement the company said the unit has been making a loss for some time. "Having explored all other options to address this unsustainable situation, Avon has now appointed advisors who are actively committed to selling Avon Mixing on our behalf. However, should the efforts to sell the Avon Mixing business prove unsuccessful the Company's intention is to close this facility."
Avon's mixing unit is a state-of-the-art operation set up in 1999 with all new equipment. There are two mixing lines, both utilising variable speed tangential mixers with full computer control of all weighing and mixing parameters. The mixer capacities are 270 litres and 84 litres, offering batches of 200-260kg and 60-80kg, depending on the compound. The Westbury unit comprises both mixing for production-scale operatios and Avon's Materials development Centre. The MDC is expected to remain with Avon, while the mixing operation is likely to be sold.
