Younger drivers out of the loop on tires
ERJ staff report (TP)
Dublin, Ireland – Young drivers are at greater risk of an accident because they don't look after their tires, a new report claims, reported Eddie Cunningham from the Irish Independent.
More than a third of those aged 18-25 had never checked their tread depth.
Two-thirds had not checked their tread within the previous month, the maximum period recommended between checks.
The research by not-for-profit organisation TyreSafe and young-driver insurer firm, ingenie, also found 25 percent admitted they had never checked their tire pressures.
More than half were not aware the driver is responsible for tire safety and legality.
The authors say nearly half of young drivers have never been shown how to check the condition of their tires.
