Ansell reports strong growth in six months to Dec 2007

Richmond, Victoria -- ANsell Ltd has reported strong results for the six months ended 31 Dec., 2007. The company said year-on-year sales were up by 16 percent, to US$532.8 million (Euro 367 million). Profit (EBIT) was up 26 percent, to $54.7 million
On a like-for-like basis, sales were up by 12 percent, with growth in all regions of the world, said Ansell ceo, Doug Tough. he said although latex prices had declined since a year previously, they were still higher than expected.
In the disposable glove segment, Tough said overall sales increased to $51.5 million from $45.3 million, but within that, latex glove sales were flat, with the growth coming from the synthetics business. In the professional surgeons' glove business, synthetic glove sales were strong, with volume growth of 19 percent and revenues up to $10.9 million, from $9.0 million. THis now represents around 12 percent of revenues. In the exam glove business, Ansell noted that nitrile glove sales had risen sharply, contributing to synthetic glove sales of $27.4 million, up from 21.1 million a year earlier. Revenues from this business now represent almost a third of Ansell's total exam glove sales of $85 million.
