Goodyear tops Fortune's list of most-admired auto suppliers
Akron, Ohio -- US-based Fortune magazine has recognised Goodyear as the most admired motor vehicle parts company in the world.Â
Goodyear Tire & Rubber came top in the category, Motor Vehicle Parts, with a score of 6.89 out of a possible 10. Johnson Controls came third in the same category with 6.50 while Michelin came in at 7th with 5.47 points. Bridgestone managed 10th slot with 5.37 and Continental AG managed only 14th position, with 4.58 points.
Overall, Goodyear should have come in at around 31st position in the global list, but the company is not mentioned, even though both Johnson Controls  (49th) and Toyota Industries (31st) appear on Fortune's global list and were ranked below Goodyear in the vehicle parts category. There was no explanation of this omission. The computer and phone company, Apple topped the main listing, with an overall score of 7.40, even though second-placed General Electric scored 8.4
Goodyear said it topped the magazine's list in innovation, people management, global orientation and use of assets. It also was ranked first in terms of innovation and quality of products and services among motor vehicles parts companies.
"Not only did Goodyear lead our industry category, but we were ranked well ahead of our global tyre competitors," Chairman and CEO Robert Keegan said in a release. He pointed out that five years ago the tyre maker was nowhere near the top of Fortune's list but climbed to the top because contributions of Goodyear employees around the globe.
