South Africa publishes waste tyres discussion document
ERJ staff report (DS)
Johannesburg, South Africa -- The South African government has issued a discussion document on the management of waste tyres. Interested parties have until the end of April to comment.
The document was published on 1 April, and interested parties have 30 days from then to submit comments.
The document places a duty on tyre producers to submit plans for integrated waste tyre management plans. Those who do not do so will lose the right to sell and distribute tyres in the Republic. All such plans become public documents
All waste tyres must be mutilated to prevent any future use on road-going vehicles, and then disposed of in an approved manner.
Breaches of these regulations may lead to penalties up to Rand 100 000 (Euro 8000).
