Transparent TPEs from ExxonMobil
ERJ staff report (DS)
Houston Texas -- ExxonMobil Chemical has introduced transparent and translucent grades of thermoplastic elastomer. The company said they are designed for grip applications in the kitchenware, consumer electronics, tools, small appliance and stationery markets.
The two grades are TPE F471-60 which offers 82 percent light transmittance and TPE F371-60, which has a light transmittance of 10 percent, making it translucent. ExxonMobil said they are both high-flow grades, with a hardness of 60 Shore A, to provide a soft and dry rubbery touch. They are odour-free and exhibit good chemical resistance.
The company said both new grades offer a unique combination of properties that make them dishwasher safe and ideal replacements for flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These TPEs also accept a range of special effects such as metallic, iridescent or transparent colours.
