PPG raising price of silica
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- PPG Industries Inc. is enacting a price increase of as much as 20 percent on all its precipitated silica products, including Hi-Sil silicas and Lo-Vel flatting agents, as of July 1 or when contracts allow.
The company said triple-digit percentage cost increases in sulphuric acid used to produce silica is behind the price hike, along with the significant rise in natural gas and transportation costs.
The amount of each increase will vary by product, and PPG said it will evaluate raw material and energy costs on a quarterly basis and adjust pricing as necessary.
