Goodyear to temporarily halt production at two US plants
Akron, Ohio -- Goodyear will temporarily halt commercial truck tyre production at its Danville, Vairginia, and Topeka, Kansas, plants for two weeks in November and another two weeks in December.
A spokeswoman for the Akron-based tyre maker said the Danville plant will cease production for two weeks starting Nov. 8 and again Dec. 6. The Topeka plant will stop producing commercial truck tyres on Nov. 3 and again on Dec. 1.
Goodyear is temporarily stopping production, according to the spokeswoman, to “align production levels with reduced customer demand.†The company will continue to manufacture aircraft tyres at the Danville plant and giant OTR tyres at the Topeka plant, she said.
The company has not made any plans for temporary closings or production stops beyond 2008, the spokeswoman said.
