Joint venture funds tyre chip converter
ERJ staff report (RD)
Winston-Salem, North Carolina -- Plateau Mineral Development has entered a joint venture agreement with Business Development Corporation Inc., Environmental Solutions (EnSol) and Matthews Energy Investments llc to build a converter that uses a closed loop system to convert organic material into energy.
The first unit, a 26 April statement company statement said, will be designed specifically to process tyre chips to produce gas, carbon black and solvent.
According to Plateau, the best feedstock is truck tyres, “although the process can convert any hydrocarbon.â€
“We expect the tyre converter to be one of our most lucrative development projects, and therefore, we have placed it at the top of our priority list,†said Robert Matthews of Plateau Mineral Development. “We have reviewed many types of processes and have found that our modular design solves many problems relating to cost, size, maintenance, and down time. The joint venture will allow us to bring together the necessary funding to build a modular unit and to begin demonstrating the efficiency of the system,†he added.
