New Zealand finds half of vehicles have under-inflated tyres
ERJ staff report (DS)
Christchurch, New Zealand -- A small survey of 150 cars in New Zealand found that half the vehicles were riding on under-inflated tyres.
The New Zealand AA loooked at a random sample of 150 vehicles as they were undergoing the annual road safety checks. Half had under-inflated tyres and only 17 percent had tyre pressures at or within 0.5 pounds per square inch (psi) of the manufacturer's setting.
One vehicle was 13 psi (1 bar) under-inflated, at nearly half its recommended setting, and another was nearly twice the recommended air pressure, both seriously compromising safety.
