Weinheim, Germany --. Dieter Freudenberg, a general partner of the family-held Freudenberg Group for many years and former Member of the Board of Partners of Freudenberg & Co., Kommanditgesellschaft, died on October 1 aged 84.
Dieter Freudenberg joined the family company in 1945 and was instrumental in shaping its success until 1998, earning the greatest respect both within and outside the company throughout his life.
His training focused in particular on preparing him to assume responsibility in sales and in foreign relations. As soon as post-war conditions permitted, he spent lengthy periods gaining experience aboard, for example in London, Paris, South Africa and Argentina. This intensive encounter with other cultures at an early stage in his career had a lasting formative influence on Dieter Freudenberg.
Thanks to his special ability to deal with different cultures and his respect for these cultures, Dieter Freudenberg won the confidence of people whose entrepreneurial commitment and great loyalty guided the development of the Freudenberg Group in their own countries. Until the last he cultivated a large international circle of friends, often through a very personal correspondence.
Dieter Freudenberg had a formative influence on the development of the Freudenberg Group for more than six decades, showing an unflagging interest in the Group's evolution. He never tired of underscoring the significance of family unity and was deeply committed to fostering good relations between the Partners and the company.
