ERJ staff report (DS)
Berlin, Germany -- Indian newspapers are reporting that Michelin's new truck tyre plant in Tamil Nadu is due on stream in November 2012, and will have initial capacity for 300 000 truck, bus and earthmover tyres annually. The Hindu Business Line quotes Pete Selleck, head of Michelin's truck and bus tyre unit, as saying that output will ramp up to 2 million units annually, but did not give a timescale for that.
The paper says the unit currently employs 250, but will recruit 1250 more in the coming months.
It quoted Selleck as saying, "Less than 15 per cent of the trucks and buses on Indian roads use radial tyres. The scope for radialisation is high in India compared to China and Brazil, where radialisation is more than 50 per cent,"
