Topeka, Kansas ? The Bureau of Waste Management within the Kansas Department of Health and Human Services is accepting applications for a grant program designed to encourage communities and school districts to use products made by Kansas-based scrap tyre recyclers.
The Kansas Waste Tire Grant Program gives counties, municipalities, school districts, private schools, townships and park districts the opportunity to be reimbursed up to 50 percent of the cost of buying and installing recycled rubber products.
Only tyre-derived products on the bureau's approved vendor list are eligible for grants. Approved products include playground cover, mats, athletic field surfacing, rubber mulch, and moulded or extruded rubber products, according to the Grant Guide on the bureau's website.
All products in the grant program must contain at least 50-percent waste tyre material by weight, unless they contain other recycled material, the bureau said.
