EU truck tyre sales weakened in November - Michelin
ERJ staff report (DS)
Paris -- Michelin reports that replacement sales of truck tyres continued to decline in November, though 11-month sales are ahead of last year. Most other markets remained strong, with the exception of Brazilian car tyres.
The company has updated its website with a limited regional breakdown of the growth in the global tyre industry. The site still only gives percentage changes from a year ago and ignores Asia, but the data shows continued growth. Data is given for November, and for the year to date, which covers the first eleven months of 2011.
In truck tyre markets, Europe's growth in the OE market is continues to slow, with growth in the year to date of of 38.4 percent, though year-on-year growth in November was lower, at just 6.1 percent. On the replacement side, growth in the first eleven months of 2011 of 7.1 percent concealed a decline in the last few months, with the November figure down by 10.1 percent.
In the Americas, North American OE truck tyre markets continued to grow, but at a slightly slower rate than the hectic growth seen earlier in the year -- the year to date has seen an increase of 58.1 percent and growth of 48.4 percent in the month of November. Replacement sales were up by 7.3 percent in the year to date but fell by 3.8 percent in the month of November. In Brazil, OE sales rose by 19.5 percent in the first eleven months, and the growth rate slowed to 16.6 percent in November, while replacement sales were up by 6.310.5 percent in the year to date but fell by 8.0 percent in November.

In the Americas, North American OE markets rose by 7.9 percent in the year to date and accelerated to 17.9 percent in November, while replacement sales were essentially flat (down by 0,6 percent) in the year to date, but up by 0.9 percent in November.
