Sharp falls in OE truck tyre sales in January

Milan, Italy -- Pirelli said European truck tyre replacement sales fell by 22 percent compared with a year ago. OE figures were not available.
THe company has updated its website with industry tyre sales in different regions for the month of January 2012. The company reports only percentage changes, not absolute numbers.
OE truck tyre sales in the NAFTA region grew by 35 percent compared with January 2011. On the replacement side, however the slowdown in sales continued, with a decline of 4 percent in January. Sales data for the Mercosur region showed OE sales down by an astonishing 71 percent on January 2011. On the replacement side, January sales were up by 9 percent.
In China, OE truck tyre sales fell by a remarkable 47 percent, while replacement sales data was not available. Japanese sales were healthier, with OE sales up by 15 percent in January, and replacement numbers down by 5 percent.
In the car and light truck segment, European OE sales in January 2012 were similar to a year earlier. Replacement sales were down by 13 percent in the month of January.
North American (NAFTA) sales of car and light truck tyres were mixed. On the replacement side, January sales were down by 13 percent on last year. OE figures were positive, with sales in January up by 19 percent. In the Mercosur region, January sales were up by 4 percent on the same period in 2011, . In OE, the most recent month showed a fall of 7 percent
Sales data from China showed a 26 percent decline in OE sales in the January; replacement sales data was not available. Japanese sales of replacement tyres fell by 12 percent in January, while OE sales were stronger, with January data showing an increase of 19 percent,.
