Malaysia's NR production fell in January

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's production of natural rubber (NR) in January 2012 fell by over 20 percent year on year. Total output was 85,026 tonnes, up by 5,300 tonnes (+6.6 percent) on the previous month but down by by 23,690 tonnes (-21.8 percent) on the the year-ago figure.
Malaysia exported 56,564 tonnes of NR, down by 19,580 tonnes (-25.7 percent) from the previous month and 21,579 tonnes (-27.6 percent) from a year ago. Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.) was the main contributor of NR exports with a total of 94.3 per cent where 42.0 per cent consists of S.M.R. 20.
The country imported 54,638 tonnes of NR in January 2012, down by 8,280 tonnes (-13.2 percent) from December 2011 and by 22.6 per cent when compared to a year ago. Latex concentrate was the main type of rubber imported and constituted 43.3 per cent of total imports.
Domestic consumption of NR in January 2012 was recorded at 34,940 tonnes, up by 1,037 tonnes (+3.1 percent) from December 2011. However, compared to the same month in 2011, domestic consumption shrank by 0.9 per cent.
At the end of January 2012, Malysia held stocks of 152,097 tonnes a small increase of 8,640 tonnes (+6.0 percent), compared to the previous month. But down by 14.8 per cent when compared to a year ago.
The average monthly price of NR in January 2012 shows a small increase compared to the previous month. The average price of latex concentrate was recorded at 671.26 sen, increased 3.00 sen (+0.4 percent) from December 2011 but it dropped 326.12 sen (-32.7 percent) when compared to January 2011.
