Dunlop Aircraft announces developments at Farnborough Show
ERJ staff report (DS)
Farnborough, UK -- At the opening of the Farnborough International Airshow 2012 this week, Dunlop Aircraft Tyres made a series of announcements about growth.
The UK-based company used the show to unveil prototypes of its second generation radial tyres for the Embraer 170-175 family of aircraft. The development version of the new main gear tyre, which is being shown for the first time, incorporates the latest technology for airlines by offering increased landing life and reduced weight. When the product is launched, Dunlop will be the only manufacturer to offer airlines a choice of bias and radial tyres for the Embraer 170-175 family.
DATL is also introducing its first tyres for ATR turboprops. The company is showing its new radial mainwheel tyre for the French-built ATR 72 at the Farnborough show. Dunlop also announced that flight evaluations have recently started with airlines in Europe for radial mainwheel and bias nosewheel tyres on the smaller ATR 42. “These new tyres, coupled with our ability to offer local distribution and retreading, will mean that we can support almost every regional aircraft operating today,†said Dunlop Aircraft Tyres' chairman, Ian Edmondson.
The company also noted that it more than doubled the number of tyres that it sold from its site in China in the first six months of 2012 compared with the same period last year.
The company uses Dunlop Taikoo (Jinjiang) Aircraft Tyres Company Limited, its joint venture distribution and retreading company in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, to serve the needs of aircraft operators throughout Asia Pacific. It opened the site in November 2009 and in the first six months of this year has seen its volume of retreads increase by 114 per cent compared with January to June 2011.
