Hannover, Germany -- In its half-year results, Continental said sales and profits in its tyre and rubber operations all improved in the first half and the second quarter.
In the tyre segment, sales for the three months to 30 June 2012 grew percent to euro 2352 million from euro 2102 million. Profit (EBITDA) grew more strongly on lower rubber prices. EBITDA in the three months was euro 523 million, up from euro 372 million a year earlier.
The company said overall tyre sales volumes were flat, with higher sales in Asia compensating for lower volumes in Europe and lower replacement volumes in North America.
At ContiTech, sales for the three months increased to Euro 932 million from euro 916 million a year earlier. Profit (EBITDA) also increased to euro 146 million from euro 138 million.
