Michelin shows puncture-proof tube on urban e-bike
ERJ staff report (DS)
Friedrichshafen, Germany - Michelin demonstrated an electric bicycle aimed at urban commuters at last month's Eurobike show. The bike features puncture resistant tyres and tubes.
Michelin said The tyre is fitted with its brand-new Protek Max inner tube, which seals itself after a puncture, considerably reduces pressure loss when the bike is not in use and is easy to mount.
The Protek Urban tyre is designed for all city bicycles and will be available at bicycle tyre dealers. When designing the product, Michelin deployed two technological solutions:
A textured surface that responds to a puncture by compressing, rather than expanding like a traditional inner tube. The hole therefore naturally seals itself through the combined effect of the tube's surface and the injection of a preventive sealant that limits the effects of the puncture.
A square cross-section that clings to the tyre rim, while eliminating the problem of twisting. This makes the tube easy to mount.
