China manufacturers get E-class on tyre labels - CRIA
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing - Tyres made in China are seeing rolling resistance grades of E to F class, under the EU's new consumer tyre labels, according to a long report on the CRIA website. While this means the tyres will be permitted to be sold in Europe under the region's first-stage limits, they will not be permitted once the second-stage limits come into force in 2016.
Local tests appear to show that 30 percent of Chinese-made truck tyres fail to meet the first stage requirements, but 70 percent fail to meet the second-stage limits.
Currently the EU is the largest export destination for Chinese-made car tyres, taking around 40 percent of tyre exports. Or 16 percent of total output.
The report says the EU introduction of labels will adversely affect the China's tyre manufacturers unless those companies significantly upgrade their compounding and manufacturing technologies.
